Who are we?

We have links with a number of local and national organisations, including the National Autistic Society, but we are essentially an independent group, mostly parents of children, teenagers and young adults with ASD, aiming to provide objective local information and support. OASIS caters for all aspects of the spectrum, including classic autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. If your child has been recently diagnosed or you suspect he or she may have an ASD, then read this letter from a Parent.

Monthly Meetings

We hold monthly meetings at the Community Hall, next door to Cheney School on Cheney Lane, Oxford OX3 7QH, usually on the first Tuesday of every other month. There is coffee and a chance to chat from 7.30pm and the speaker starts at 8.00pm. There is good parking and the number 15 bus stops outside. Click here for a map.  We usually organise a conference every two years.

Events & Activities

We book a wide range of nationally famous and respected speakers to cover the needs of all members. We are lucky that many leaders in the field are willing to come to Oxford and recognise the importance of meeting with a group such as ours. We are always pleased to receive members’ recommendations for future speakers.

OASIS is represented at the meetings of various strategic groups and we try our best to make planners aware of our members’ needs and to lobby for better provision for children and young adults with autism.

Playdays

Playdays are another very important part of our work. We run these sessions in all school half-terms and every week during the summer holidays, providing a wide range of safe and enjoyable activities for our autistic children and their families. Many of the Playdays are free or offered at subsidised rates to members. They provide a relaxing day out, often enabling children with ASD to try new experiences at an autism-friendly venue and giving parents the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.
